The Wrap-up . . .

Dr. Anthony J. Costa and Dr. David Stambler co-hosted the Penn State Single Reed Summit on November 9 and 10, 2012 at the Penn State School of Music.  Guest Artists included clarinetist Dr. Deborah Bish (Florida State University) and saxophonist Wildy Zumwalt (SUNY Fredonia). The event included two days of performances, master classes, lectures, chamber music, High School and College performance competitions, and vendors.  There were 110+ performers including 35 professional and student performers and composers from 11 states; 35 Penn State saxophone and clarinet students, 45 other Penn State Music Students and 7 Penn State faculty performers.

The Single Reed Summit closing concert featured Penn State’s Symphonic Wind Ensemble under the direction of Dennis Glocke.  The program included Darius Milhaud’s “La Creation du Monde,” Michael Daugherty’s “Brooklyn Bridge” (South and North) with clarinet professor Anthony J. Costa soloist, and William Bolcom’s “Concerto Grosso for Saxophone Quartet and Band,” featuring the Capitol Quartet (Christopher Creviston, Joseph Lulloff, David Stambler and Andrew Dahlke.  Special thanks to our vendors and sponsors: The Penn State School of Music, The Margot Music Fund, Music & Arts, Buffet Group, Yamaha Instruments, Rico Reeds, The David Pyle Stone Endowment, The Rosemary Duncan Fund, Hammer Music Company, Hickey’s Music Center, and the Penn State Saxophone Alliance.
