Anthony Poehailos 

Anthony Poehailos is a second-year doctoral student at Florida State University under the guidance of Deborah Bish and Jonathan Holden. His previous degrees include an M.M. in Music Performance from The Pennsylvania State University, and a B.M. in Music Education from James Madison University, where he was named the valedictorian of his graduating class.

As a professional orchestral musician, Anthony has performed with the Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra, Heritage Theatre Festival Orchestra (Charlottesville, VA), Pennsylvania Chamber Orchestra (State College, PA), and Williamsport Symphony Orchestra (PA). He is in particular demand as a utility clarinetist and doubler, as his professional experience includes performing on bass clarinet, E-flat clarinet, and alto and tenor saxophone. He was awarded First Prize in the International Clarinet Association’s 2018 Orchestral Audition Competition in Ostend, Belgium for his performance of orchestral excerpts on both soprano and bass clarinet.

During his time at Penn State, Anthony was honored as a winner of the Symphonic Wind Ensemble Concerto Competition and collaborated with dancer and choreographer, Natasha McCandless, to earn First Prize in the performance category in the university's annual Graduate Exhibition. He is a founding member of the Windception Wind Quintet and previously served as bass clarinetist for the Civitasolis Reed Quintet, both active chamber groups in the area surrounding Tallahassee.

Anthony serves the FSU College of Music as a Graduate Teaching Assistant, providing instruction to undergraduate clarinetists and future music educators. He has also demonstrated success as a private teacher for K-12 students. Students’ successes include top placement in PMEA All-State Bands and Orchestras and acceptances to nationally recognized music programs including Penn State and the University of Maryland.

Anthony’s previous clarinet teachers include Anthony J. Costa, Janice L. Minor, Anastasia Christofakis, and James Tobin. He holds memberships with Pi Kappa Lambda, the International Clarinet Association, National Association for Music Education, and Kappa Kappa Psi.
